Preaching and Teaching was Very Good, but could be more in depth. HOWEVER, it is very very Clique, and closed to others. Went there for several years and never fit into any of their "groups." If you are part of the Bergsma extended family, or into Large families or homeschooling or already a pre-existing friend of someone in some ministry or "clique" of the church, you MIGHT fit in well. Never acquired any close friends, and reaching out to them and being involved in their Bible Studies didn't work, even after several years. Children didn't like to go because they felt like they didn't fit in anywhere, and programs were minimal, while others were well accepted. This should not happen in any church that represents Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Love should be to all, equally. Also, several, were shut down when they shared what was going on in their life for prayer and help. This may be due, at least in part, to their own level of discomfort. However, It only serves to keep people from sharing. If people can't share in the church where can they go? Hoping, this makes a difference.

  • We've attended GCF on and off for a couple years. Pastor Cal has a shepherd's heart and selflessly ministers to the people in his care. He's real, approachable, funny, and skillfully speaks the truth in love which is very rare. He addresses the difficult issues we face in our culture from a Biblical worldview and helps us to formulate our thoughts and responses to the people and issues of our day. If you're looking for a pastor who truly loves the Lord and loves people, look no further.

The music ministry is great too. The musicians are skilled and they mix Hymns and older style worship songs with modern songs. There's something for everyone to relate to and express their adoration to God thru song.

The congregation is a wonderful mix of young, middle aged, and old. There are many families who have known and worshiped together for many years in this place. And there are many new families. As in any church, it takes time to get to know people. But anyone willing to give it a try will find that GCF is made up of good people. None of us is perfect, so being patient and extending grace will go a long way in finding people you can relate to and build relationships with here.

This church family actually camps together for a weekend every summer at a local campground and GCF foots the bill for anyone who wants to join them! And the pastor's wife, Barb, along with some other amazing ladies, plan, buy, transport, organize, and prepare all the meals for the weekend! The families who are camping volunteer to prepare, serve and clean up meals as well. Everyone works together. We've gone twice now and it's a GREAT time!!!

Like I said before, no one is perfect. Therefore there is no perfect church because a church is made up of people. But GCF is a place where people are welcomed and accepted as they are. And I have seen Pastor Cal tear up as he shares from the heart. The other leaders of the church are true men of God with hearts to serve as well. We've tried out quite a few churches over the past 13 years as there are many to choose from in West Michigan. But GCF has won our hearts. And it's because of the people - from the top all the way down.
